Fantasmagorie

Through prints, posters, articles and books, this exhibition illustrates phantasmagoria, a show in which animated, illuminated figures are projected in the dark to simulate supernatural apparitions.  Between dark romanticism and fantasy, the show delves into the technical secrets and scientific innovations behind this forerunner to the invention of the cinema, which was all the rage in Europe from 1790 to 1860.
