The centre will feature a permanent exhibition of the graphical works of Tomi Ungerer, a cartoonist and illustrator born in Strasbourg in 1931, presenting visitors with a theme-based visit comprising approximately 250 original works, a collection which will be periodically updated. These works will be selected from among the various genres covered by this artist, including illustrations for children’s books, advertising posters and satirical drawings. The context for the artist’s illustration work will also be examined through the work of other 20th and 21st century cartoonists and illustrators.

Tomi Ungerer is one of the greatest illustrators of children's books but he has many other talents. His works have been displayed in about a hundred exhibitions all over Europe. The collection, donated by the artist and temporarily housed in the "Kleine Metzig" of Neo-Gothic style near Place Kléber, is primarily designed to promote the artist through changing expositions. This artist has achieved international fame through his varied works: drawings, sketches, paintings, sculptures, montages, engravings, posters, prints. This remarkable collection, constantly growing thanks to his generosity, also comprises books, magazines and newspaper articles as well as personal archives and his personal correspondence, thus providing the researcher with a wealth of information on his artistic and cultural activities since his beginnings in 1954 to the present day. Access to the library and to the archives is available upon request. Part of the collection of toys is permanently exhibited at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Strasbourg.
