Surréalice. Illustr'Alice

  • Surréalice. Illustr'Alice

The “Illustr’Alice” show, which presents nearly 150 original artworks, books and documents made by numerous European artists from the 20th century and from the present day, is more specifically devoted to the illustration of books on the theme of Alice.

It explores not only the world of children's books, where the theme has been omnipresent since its creation, but also the register of humorous and satirical illustration, where it is more unexpected. Depending on the geocultural sensibilities of the artists, who bring the major component of Alice–nonsense–more or less to the fore, it is treated very differently in Central Europe, France, the northern countries or the United Kingdom.  This broad formal diversity is expressed through a themed exhibition route that progresses through the museum’s rooms.
