  • Exhibition - The largest page ever printed of the first page of Gutenberg’s Bible
    from 05/09/2026 to 08/31/2026

As part of the ‘625 Years of Gutenberg’ commemorative year, here is the largest page ever printed of the first page of Gutenberg’s Gospel of St John. It was produced using letterpress printing with a computer-engraved wooden plate. It was unveiled on 26 April 2025 during a spectacular printing event in Mainz.

Originally presented at the opening ceremony of the Rhineland-Palatinate Cultural Summer, this giant page is fully in line with an initiative to promote European cultural heritage. Its display in Strasbourg Cathedral carries a strong symbolic significance!

    The page measures 5 x 7.20 metres.

The Gutenberg Bible is not only the first book printed in Europe using movable type, but is also considered one of the most beautiful. It will be on display in Strasbourg from 9 May to 31 August 2026 at Strasbourg Cathedral as part of Europe Day. Don’t miss the chance to see it!

A project organised by the Espace Européen Gutenberg in partnership with the International Gutenberg Society of Mainz as part of the Europe Festival.
