Every year since 1966, on the last Sunday of the month of August, the residents mobilise to make this traditional festival (which attracts nearly 10,000 visitors) a great success.

The day starts early in the morning, with a big flea market on the village streets. Next, farmyards open up for art exhibitions and demonstrations of traditional crafts, and to serve the all-important sauerkraut. At around noon, a cocktail concert begins. Next comes the highlight of the day: the great procession on the theme of “Geispolsheim in the Olden Days”. Visitors will appreciate a parade in traditional costume, folkloric music and dance and lavish floats and horse-drawn carriages. The festivities continue with street performances and come to an end later... with a second serving of sauerkraut!

50,000 tons of sauerkraut are produced per year in France, two-thirds of which are made in Alsace! The main cabbage-growing and sauerkraut-production area is southwest of Strasbourg, around Geispolsheim and Krautergersheim.
