5 fun things to do with kids at the Christmas Market

If the magic of the Christmas lights and the majesty of the Great Christmas Tree aren’t enough to amaze your kids, here are a few ideas of what to do at the Strasbourg Christmas Market to make the entire family happy!

1. Discover the city

Take advantage of your time in Strasbourg to discover the city as a family! Because it’s so original, Strasbourg’s heritage is fascinating for young and old alike. Special activities suitable for children are a great way to have lots of fun exploring with the kids. We recommend taking a boat ride with special commentary just for children, and going on a sightseeing train tour to discover the less known Neustadt district.

2. Go on a merry-go-round

Looking for an activity the little ones will adore?  Don’t miss the merry-go-round! A magnificent merry-go-round from the late 19th century awaits your children on Place du Château. While your little darlings are busy clinging to a wooden horse or a roaring lion, or driving a little car, you’ll have a quiet moment to admire the details of the Cathedral.

3. Enjoy a delicious Alsatian snack

As soon as you get to the Christmas markets, you’ll notice that lots of chalets offer savoury and sweet treats, each one more tempting than the last. Indulge in a crêpe, a waffle or an Alsatian speciality; there’s so much to choose from! And if you’re feeling the cold, try sipping on some warm apple juice with cinnamon.

4. Join in a workshop

To take something you’ve made yourself (and the pride of making it) home with you from the Christmas Market, you can participate in a workshop held during “Strasbourg, the Capital of Christmas”. There’s plenty of items to choose from: Christmas decorations, dream catchers, embroideries, Advent wreaths and Christmas cards! Just sign up at the Village of Advent and you’re all set!

5. Listen to stories

If Christmastime is so special in Alsace, it’s also because there are so many marvellous legends and tales about it. Delve into wonderful stories about Christmas in Alsace, by going to see a show at the Village of Advent or the projection mapping show called “L’Hôtel des Contes”. Enjoy!
